“I want to stay here
I still want to dream here
Even so, I know the time to leave has come near
…
Even so, I still want to fight and win.”
I remember when I was a child, I pointed out a place too far, too dark to see called future. It was a happy moment to reminisce the memory of my younger self, talking about my dreams of giving my parents and myself a better life while looking at the blue sky. “I can do it,” I say with a smile.
But it’s ironic now that I’m older, walking closer to something I want. I think it’s already impossible for me to achieve that dream. There are a lot of stumbling blocks ahead of me. And every time I fall, the thought of not being able to fly, the thought of not being able to touch the sky always creep into my mind. However, I want to stay dreaming, fighting and hoping that I’ll be winning the prize called success in this life.
A story of a neurosurgeon inspires me a lot. He was the author of the book entitled, “The Magic Shop,” Dr. James Doty. In the book, his evolution as a struggling student turned into a distinguished neurosurgeon in the medical field was portrayed. He is a product of a poor family who live in Lancaster, California, a small town about 70 miles north of Los Angeles. As a young child, he has to take care of his family. His father is a violent alcoholic, her mother is depressed and emotionally unstable and his brother is always bullied by others. At a young age, he found out his dream to become a doctor. He left his family to study for college and needed to become a working student to support himself. There were times when his grades were so low that he wasn’t permitted to become an intern to a hospital. But he never stopped dreaming. He never stopped working hard with determination until he reached it.
Looking at Dr. Doty when he was a child, no on would expect that he will achieve what he has now. Well, that’s life. Neither you nor I know what’s next tomorrow or in the future. It’s unpredictable. But I want to encourage you to keep on dreaming and working hard to achieve it. I want you to keep on thinking about yourself becoming what you aspire to be. Buddha once said, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.”
Start working for your dream, friend because dreams delayed turns into a life unlived.
Let’s get it!
